Stage / Teaching Practice: Je suis soulagée !

Pour mon stage aussi je suis très contente de ma note ! Avec tous les commentaires négatifs que j'avais eu de mon enseignante-associée, je ne croyais pas avoir une aussi bonne note que B+ ! Me voilà très, très soulagée !

For my teaching practice too I am very happy with my mark ! With all the negative comments I have had from my associate teacher, I would never have thought I'd get such a great note (B+) ! I am so relieved !

Maths: Je n'y crois pas !

Je n'y crois tout simplement pas ! J'ai eu ma note en maths, le cours que tout le monde pensait couler, et qu'effectivement presque tout le monde a coulé ! La moyenne est de 38%, et je passe avec B-, soit une note quelque part entre 76% et 80% !!! Jamais, oh grand jamais, je n'aurais osé espérer une telle note ! Je plains toutes les filles qui vont devoir reprendre ce cours affreux !

I just don't believe it ! I've had my mark in maths, the course everybody thought they would fail, and the course that most people failed too ! The average is 38 % and I pass with B-, which means a mark somewhere between 76% and 80% !!! I would never, never have even hoped for such a mark ! I am sad for all the girls who will have to do that awful course again !

Union Station

Après avoir été au Nathan Philipps Square et au New City Hall, nous nous sommes dirigées vers Union Station, la gare de train ainsi que station de métro principale de Toronto. Mon guide de voyage vantait son architecture, qui est effectivement impressionnante. Je me rends compte à l'instant que j'ai oublié de prendre des photos. Laissez-moi vous montrer des photos que j'ai trouvées sur Internet.

After we've been to the Nathan Philipps Square and to New City Hall, we went to Union Station, the train station and main Toronto subway Station. My travel guide said it has a beautiful architecture, which is true. I just realize that I forgot to take pictures of it. Let me show you two pictures that I've found on the Internet.

La première photo est une vue de la façade avant la nuit. Je n'ai pas eu cette chance de voir l'Union Station pendant la nuit. Ça doit être très impressionnant. La deuxième photo, quant à elle, est le couloir principal de la station de train. Les détails du toit sont très beau, ça me fait penser à toutes ces cathédrales et ces châteaux européens que je n'ai pas encore eu la chance de visiter.

First picture is a view on the main entrance at night. I did not have the chance to see it at night like that. It must be very impressive. The second picture is the main hall of the train station. The details of the roof are beautiful and make me think of all these european cathedrals and castels I didn't have the chance to visit yet.

En passant dans l'Union station, nous avons découvert la Skywalk, qui relie la gare avec la tour du CN et le centre Rogers. Nous l'avons donc parcourue pour nous rendre là-bas plutôt que de passer par les rues.

When we went through the Union Station, we discovered the Skywalk, which links Union Station with the CN tower and Rogers Centre. We walked through it instead of walking in the streets.

Nathan Philipps Square & New City Hall

Le Nathan Philipps Square est une place publique faisant face au nouvel hôtel de ville et à côté de l'ancien.

The Nathan Philipps Square is a public place in front of the New City Hall and beside Old City Hall.

Cet endroit est en fait un immense bassin d'eau avec des fontaines au-dessus de lesquelles il y a trois grosses arches. L'hiver, cette fontaine est transformée en une patinoire qui est, paraît-il, très populaire.

This place is a huge pond of water with a fountain on top of which there are three big arches. I heard that during the winter, it becomes a very popular ice ring.

Comme dans toutes les grandes places publiques des grandes villes, les mouettes et les pigeons abondent. Les stands à hot-dog également, dans ce cas-ci. Nous nous sommes arrêtées pour goûter à ces hot-dogs qu'un gars qui travaille avec moi m'a fortement conseillé d'essayer ! J'ai choisi le hot-dog avec la saucisse polonaise. Le tout est servi dans un pain de maïs avec les condiments souhaités. J'ai pris des oignons marinés, de la moutarde et de la saube barbecue. Délicieux !

Like in every public place of every big cities, there were loads of pigeons and gulls. There were also lots of hot dog stands. We stopped there to taste to those hot dogs a guy working with me had suggested me to try. I choose the hot dog with the polish saussage. It is served into a corn hot dog bread and the condiments you want. I chose marinated onions, mustard and barbecue sauce. Yummy !

Seule ombre à ce bon dîner: la fontaine qui est devant toutes les photos du New City Hall n'était pas encore remplie, donc ce n'était qu'un grand carré de béton.

The only bad thing about that lunch is that the fountain we see in front of every picture of the New City Hall was still empty from water, so it was only a big cement square.

Old City Hall

Une très belle bâtisse ! Je ne comprend pas pourquoi on a voulu démanager l'hôtel de ville dans un autre bâtisse ! Je ne connais rien en architecture, mais tout ce que je sais, c'est que c'était magnifique. De très grandes portes, une horloge en haut d'une tour et des airs de mosquée, de bâtiments nord-africains, que sais-je encore ! Jugez-en par vous même !

A beautiful building ! I don't understand why people wanted to change the Cith Hall to another place ! I know nothing of architecture, but all I know is that is was marvellous. Very big doors, a clock tower, and an appearance of mosque, of north Africa buildings... Juge by yourself !

Eaton Centre

Notre premier arrêt a été le Eaton Centre, non pas parce que c'était ce que nous avions le plus envie de visiter, mais parce que c'était le point de départ le plus stratégique pour débuter. C'était le point du centre-ville le plus au nord-est et il y avait le métro juste en dessous.

Our first stop has been the Eaton Centre, not because it was the place we wanted to see the most, but because it was the most strategic place for us to begin. It was place the most north-east we wanted to visit and there was a subway right under it.

Le Eaton Centre était magnifique avec son toit de verre, mais malheureusement, il m'a beaucoup déçue. Je crois que je n'ai pas tout vu, parce que je l'ai trouvé plus petit que place Laurier à Québec, ce qui n'est pas normal.

The Eaton Centre was beautiful with its glass roof, but unfortunately, I've been dissapointed. I think I must not have seen everything, because I actually thought it was smaller to the Place Laurier in Quebec City, which is highly improbable.

Ni moi, ni Néguine avons effectué des achats dans ce paradis du magasinage parce que nous ne sommes ni l'une ni l'autre de grandes magasineuses.

Neither me, nor Néguine have bought something in this shopper paradize because we're not shoppers at all.

Aurora et la famille / Aurora and the family

Le premier jour à Toronto, nous avons visité le centre-ville. C'est ce qui était prévu, parce que c'est ce qui est le plus facile pour débuter et pour se familiariser avec les transports en commun.
The first day in Toronto, we visited the downtown area. That's what we had planned, because it was easier to begin with and better to familiarize with the transportation system.
Lorsque je suis sortie dehors pour la première fois ce matin là, j'ai eu un choc. Le jour d'avant, j'étais partie de Rimouski et il faisait 2C. Il faisait 27C et la température a même dépassé 30C au cours de la journée. La première chose que j'ai pensé: «Oh my God ! Mais quelle idée de visiter un centre-ville par une chaleur pareille ?». Finalement, je me suis rapidement habituée (mais pas ma peau ! ha ha !).

When I got out for the first time that morning, I've had a shock. The day before, I had left Rimouski when it was 2C. It was 27C and the temperature got higher then 30C during the day. The first thing I thought was: «Oh my God ! What an idea to visit downtown by such a hot temperature ?». Fortunately, I got used quickly (but not my skin, obviously, ha ha !)
Nous logeions chez la famille lointaine de Néguine, le cousin de sa mère. Même s'ils ne nous avaient jamais vus, ils se sont révélés extrêmement généreux et attentifs. Ils nous cuisinaient de bons repas, nous faisaient des lifts même si tout était très loin, nous expliquaient comment se rendre à telle place, nous laissaient prendre leur nourriture pour nous faire des lunchs, etc. Je ne me suis jamais sentie autant chez moi malgré le fait que j'étais si loin et que ce n'était pas ma famille. Je les remercie mille fois.

We were staying in Neguine's far family, her mother's cousin. Even though they had never seen us before, they were extremely generous and attentive to our needs. They were cooking us good meals, gave us lifts to many places even though it was far, gave us explanations on how to go to many places, let us take their food to make lunches, etc. I never felt so much at home despite the fact that I was very far and it was not my family. I thank them a thousand times.
Le seul hic, c'est que la famille demeurait à Aurora, au nord de Toronto. Aurora est à environ 40 minutes du centre-ville de Toronto, mais dans les transports en commun, c'est une heure de bus et une heure de métro ! Vous connaissez la Yonge Street, la rue qui a déjà été la plus longue au monde ? Eh bien, nous avions à la parcourir prèsqu'au complet !

The only problem is that they were staying in Aurora, in the north of Toronto. Aurora is at about 40 minutes from downtown Toronto, but with the common transportations, it's an hour of bus and an hour of subway ! You know Yonge Street, that street who used to be the longest in the world ? Well, we had to take it almost all the way down !
Bref, ce long voyage a fait en sorte que nous avons perdu beaucoup de temps. Le premier jour, nous sommes arrivées à Toronto alors qu'il était presque déjà 12h.

That long trip had for result that we lost a lot of time. The first day, it was almost noon when we arrived.

Toronto-l'allée / Going to Toronto

Je suis de retour de Toronto ! J'ai vu plein de belles choses, mais ça a été un voyage fertile en émotions ! On a jamais pris le temps de respirer. Il y avait tellement de choses à voir et si peu de temps !

I'm back from Toronto ! I saw lots of beautiful things, but it's been a trip with lots of emotions ! We never took the time to breathe. There were so much things to see and so little time !

Voici les premières photos de mon premier voyage en avion ! Le premier avion que nous avons pris entre Québec et Montréal était minuscule ! J'ai eu peur au début parce que je me suis rappelé que plus les avions sont petits, plus en principe ils bougent ! Mais finalement, il n'y avait rien là. J'ai adoré le décollage.

Here are the pictures of my first trip in plane ! The first plane we took between Québec City and Montréal was so tiny ! When I first saw it, I was scared because I heard the smaller is a plane, the more it moves and shakes ! Finally, it was ok. I loved the departure.

Coupe Memorial / Memorial Cup

Pour ceux qui ne le savent pas, le plus grand événement de hockey junior au Canada, le tournoi de la Coupe Memorial, a lieu à Rimouski cette année. Laissez-moi vous dire qu'il y a du touriste de partout au Canada en ville !

For those who don't know, the biggest junior hockey event in Canada, the Memorial Cup, is in Rimouski this year. Let me tell you that there are tourists everywhere in town !

Le tournoi de la Coupe Memorial dans ma ville natale, je ne verrai probablement plus cela de mon vivant. Je me devrais d'en profiter, mais je pars mercredi matin ! Je vais manquer tous les matchs qui pour moi sont les plus importants: Drummondville vs Rimouski, les demis-finales et la grande finale. Ça me fait chier, mais en même temps l'occasion d'aller à Toronto ne se représentera peut-être pas non plus de sitôt.

The Memorial Cup tournament in my native town, I probably won't see it another time in my life. I should be enjoying it from the beginning to the end, but I am leaving Rimouski on Wednesday ! I will miss all the games that matters to me: Drummondville vs Rimouski, the semi-finals and the final. I am a bit sad about it, but I am telling me that the chance to go to Toronto may not come back early as well.

Bref, revenons-en au hockey, hier nous avons eu droit à un super spectacle de nos Nics contre les Spitfires de Windsor. Après la première période, c'était 0-0. Aucun but, mais étrangement, ça avait été intéressant à regarder quand même. Après la deuxième période, accrochez-vous, c'était 4-3 ! Sept but en une période après n'en avoir fait aucun en première, c'était assez surprenant ! Finalement, le match s'est terminé 5-4 pour l'Océanic. Ouf ! Nous l'avons échappé belle. À la fin, Windsor a sorti son gardien de but et nous avons tous eu chaud. Mais les Nics ont tenu le coup !

Back to hockey, yesterday we had a grat show from our Nics against Windsor's Spitfires. After first period, it was still 0-0. No goal, but strangely, it was very interesting to watch. After second period, be ready, it was 4-3 ! Seven goals in a period after no goal into the first period is more then surprising ! Finally, the game end with the score of 5-4 for the Oceanic. Ouf ! We were scared in the end. Windsor removed their goaler and I thought this was going to be the end. But the Nics held on

Windsor était l'équipe favorite du tournoi au début, mais ils ont perdu leurs deux premiers matchs. L'Océanic est l'équipe que personne ne s'attend voir gagner. Mais on a une victoire et une défaite. La défaite contre Kelowna a été catastrophique par contre. J'espère que les Nics vont continuer à jouer comme lors de leur dernier match !

Windsor was the favorite team at the beginning of the tournament but they lost their first two games. The Oceanic is the team no one sees the cup with. But we have one victory and one defeat. Defeat against Kelowna was awful, though. I hope the Nics are going to continue playing like they did in their last game !

Et je leur souhaite la meilleure des chances pendant que je serai partie...
I wish them the best luck while I am going to be gone...

Le fleuve St-Laurent / St.Lawrence River

Le fleuve par une belle journée de printemps... Avouez que ça donne le goût de faire un tour de voilier ! Les chanceux !

Billets achetés / Tickets bought !

Les billets d'avion sont réservés pour Toronto, ne reste plus qu'à y aller ! Je serai partie du 20 mai au 25 mai. Pas très longtemps, vous me direz. Je sais, mais c'est mieux que rien !!!

Plane tickets are bought to Toronto, there's only the trip left to do ! I will be gone from May 20th to May 25th. Not so long, you'll tell me. I know, but it's better then nothing !!!

Déjeuner et mini-voyage / Breakfast and little trip

Belle journée en perspective malgré la pluie qui s'annonce ! D'abord je vais au restaurant pour déjeuner afin de célébrer ma mère, nouvellement retraitée. Puis, on va aller fouiner à la librairie, chose que je n'ai pas faite depuis des lunes ! En début d'après-midi, je pars à la Pocatière pour rendre visite à une amie ! On va flâner et essayer de regarder qu'est-ce qu'il y a à faire à Toronto ! Nadine, si jamais tu lis ce message, je vais t'écrire bientôt pour te donner la date de départ !

Beautiful day in perspectice, despite the rain that's coming ! First, I'm gonna go to the restaurant for breakfast to celebrate my mom's newly retired. Then, we're going to go to the bookstore, something I have not done for ages ! In the beginning of the afternoon, I will leave to la Pocatière to visit a friend ! We're going to try to see what to do when we're in Toronto ! Nadine, if ever you read this message, I will write you soon to give you our departure date !

Les choses rentrent dans l'ordre / Things are getting settled

Les choses finissent par s'arranger... Finalement, l'examen de français est le 16 septembre et en plus j'ai quelqu'un qui vient à Toronto avec moi ! Ya houuu !

Things are getting settled... Finally, my french exam is on September 16th and as if it were not enough, I have someone to come to Toronto with me ! Ya hoooo !!
