La Vallée de la Matapédia / Matapedia Valley

Nous sommes parties à 7h le premier matin dans le but de pouvoir nous rendre à Percé dès la première journée tout en prenant notre temps.

We left at seven the first morning to be able to reach Percé that day without being in a hurry.

Pour faire changement, nous avons pensé débuter par la vallée et la Baie-des-Chaleurs, c'est-à-dire en commençant par le sud plutôt que par le nord.

For a change, we thought we should begin with the valley and the Baie-des-Chaleurs, which means that we began by the south shore instead of north shore.

Dans la vallée, nous avons fait très peu d'arrêts, ceux-ci étant surtout pour prendre des photos. Les voici:

La température était incertaine tôt ce matin là. Mais les nuages sur les montagnes faisaient de très belles photos !

Weather was uncertain early that morning. But the clouds on the mountains did beautiful pictures !

La rivière Matapédia longe la route jusqu'à Pointe-à-la-Croix, où elle devient la Baie des Chaleurs.

Matapedia Riviere follows the road all the way down to Pointe-à-la-Croix, where in becomes the Baie-des-Chaleurs (Heat Bay).Petit pont couvert.

De retour de Gaspésie / Back from Gaspésie

Mardi passé, je suis revenue d'un court voyage en Gaspésie avec ma mère ! On a fait le tour, en partant par le sud. C'était le fun, il n'y avait pas encore de touristes. On a pas fait grand chose d'autre que la route, mais c'est la route qui est intéressante quand on va en Gaspésie.

Last Tuesday, I came back from a short trip to Gaspesie with my mother ! We went all around it, beginning with the south part. It was great, because there was no crowd of tourists yet. We didn't do much except road, but it is the road that is the most interesting in Gaspésie.
On a tout de même fait une croisière au rocher Percé et à l'île Bonaventure, on s'est arrêté au Cap Bon-Ami du Parc Forillon ainsi qu'au phare de Cap-des-Rosiers.

We still went on a cruise to the Percé rock and to the Bonaventure island, and stopped to Cap Bon-Ami in Forillon Park and to Cap-des-Rosiers lighthouse.

Je vais bientôt prendre le temps de vous raconter ce que j'ai vu et de vous montrer les belles photos que j'ai prises.

Marineland

Marineland: Splash ! / Marineland: Splash !

Il y avait un second spectacle, qui n'en était pas vraiment un. Je dirais plutôt que c'était une attraction. Le spectacle était donné par un épaulard qui tournait autour d'un piscine. Il pouvait apparaître devant vous, et vous ne saviez jamais s'il vous présenterais sa gueule pour que vous le flattiez ou sa queue pour vous arroser.

There was another show, that wasn't really one. I'd rather say it was an attraction. The show was given by a killer whale turning around a pool. It could appear in front of you, and you never knew whether it was going to present you its face or its tail to water you.

Devinez ce qui m'est arrivé ? Eh oui, j'ai été arrosée ! Et pas à peu près. C'est que c'est gros, un épaulard !

Guess what happenned to me ? Yes, I've been watered ! And not just a little bit. It is big a killer whale tail !

Après Marineland, nous avons repris la bus pour Toronto et nous avons mangé un dernier repas dans la famille à Aurora. Le lendemain, nous sommes parties tôt pour attraper notre avion à 11h.

After Marinland, we took the bus back to Toronto and ate our last meal in the family in Aurora. The next day, we left early to catch our flight at 11 o'clock.

Marineland: Le spectacle / Marineland: The show

Le spectacle des otaries, des dauphins et du morse était très impressionnant. Je me demandais sans cesse: mais comment font-ils pour leur apprendre à faire de telles choses ? J'ai pris quelques photos et quelques vidéos:

The otaries, dolphins and the walrus show was really impressive. I kept wondering how the hell they can make them do so much things ? I took some pictures and some videos:

Marineland: Les animaux / Marineland: The animals

La première chose que nous avons faite à Marineland a été d'aller voir les bélugas. On pouvait les voir à travers des baies vitrées.

First thing we did in Marineland was to see the belugas. We could see them swim through a glass.

Après, nous sommes allées voir les cerfs. J'ai beaucoup aimé cette partie, parce qu'ils étaient très nombreux et qu'ils se laissaient flatter. J'en ai même trouver un qui aimait réellement cela, parce que je lui enlevais une partie de sa fourrure d'hiver.
After that, we went to see the deers. I liked that part, because there were several of them and that they let us touch them. I even found one who liked it, because I was removing his winter fur.

Il y avait également les ours noirs que l'on pouvait observer. Encore une fois, il y en avait plusieurs. On pouvait leur acheter de la nourriture et les nourrir, mais je ne l'ai pas fait. Un: ça coutait cher et deux: je suis certaine qu'ils mangent déjà beaucoup trop avec tous ces touristes les nourrissant.

There were also the black bears that we could observe. Once again, there were several of them. We could buy some food and feed them, but I didn't do it: One: It was expensive and two: I'm sure they're already overfed with all these tourist throwing them food.

Et finalement, nous sommes allées voir les poissons, que l'on pouvait également nourrir. C'était vraiment impressionnant à voir ! Un enfant lançait la nourriture et une centaine de poissons venaient à la surface pour tout dévorer. Ça m'a rappelé la fois où j'ai fait de la plongée en apnée dans les Bahamas, avec des poissons plus beaux, en plus !

Finally, we went to see the fish, that we could also feed. That was very impressive to see ! A child threw them food, and they were hundreds to come to the surface to eat everything. It reminded me of the time I snorkelled in the Bahamas. The fish were more beautiful there !

Il y avait d'autres animaux, mais comme je l'ai expliqué dans le message précédent, nous n'avons pas eu le temps de tout voir !

There were other animals, but like I explained in the previous post, we didn't have time to see everything !

Réveil en retard

La dernière journée avant celle de notre départ, nous nous sommes réveillées en retard. Il fallait bien que ça arrive... Nous étions tellement fatiguées, et les lits de l'hôtel étaient si confortables !

The last day before our departure, we woke up late. It had to happen... We were so tired, and the hotel beds were so comfortable !

Le réveil a pourtant sonné deux fois. Je n'ai entendu que la première, et me me suis rendormie vingt secondes plus tard. Il faut croire que ça a été pareil pour Néguine.

The alarm rang two times. I only heard the first, and I got back to sleep twenty seconds later. I believe it's been the same thing for Néguine.

Le hic, c'était que c'était la journée où nous allions à Marineland, la seule activité que Néguine voulait faire à tout prix. Il était 9h30, il fallait se préparer, débarasser la chambre, aller porter la clef et aller à la gare d'autobus à l'autre bout de la ville pour aller mettre nos bagages dans des casiers pour la journée. Ensuite prendre la bus jusqu'à Marineland, qui était à l'autre extrémité de la ville !

The problem is that it happenned the day we were going to Marineland, the only activity Neguine absolutely wanted to do. It was 9:30, and we needed to get prepared, to pick up our things in the room, give the key back and go to the bus station to put our luggage in a locker for the day. After that, take the bus to Marineland, who was at the other extreme end of the city !

C'est sans compter que le transport à Niagara Falls est beaucoup moins efficace que celui de Toronto. Les autobus pour la gare d'autobus au vingt minutes et les autobus pour Marineland aux heures...

Also, the transport to Niagara Falls is not as efficient as the one in Toronto. The city buses going to the bus station pass every twenty minutes and buses for Marineland every hour...

Bref, le temps qu'on arrive à Marineland, il était déjà midi passé. Et notre autobus pour Toronto était à 16h30, ce qui signifiait que nous devions reprendre le bus de ville de 15h parce qu'en prenant celui de 16h nous allions arriver en retard...

Because of all that, when we arrived in Marineland, it was already passed noon. Our bus to Toronto left at 4:30, which meant we had to take the bus at 3:00, because if we took the one at 4:00, we would miss our bus...

Bref, nous avions trois heures plutôt qu'une journée. La journée s'est pas mal passée dans la chicane, Néguine voulant demeurer à Marineland plus longtemps parce qu'il nous restait des choses à voir et moi faisant tout pour que nous ne manquions pas nos autobus !

So we had only three hours to spend in Marineland instead of a full day. We spent most of our day arguing, because Neguine wanted to stay longer because there were still things to see and me doing everything so that we don't miss our buses !

Les chutes le soir / The Falls at Night

La femme qui nous hébergeait nous avait dit qu'il fallait absolument voir les chutes éclairées le soir, qu'elles étaient magnifiques. Effectivement, c'est très très beau. Dommage, on a manqué les feux d'artifices. Ils sont chaque vendredi et chaque dimanche soir. On était samedi. Frustration. Le lendemain soir, nous serions de retour à Aurora.

Our host in Aurora had told us that we should absolutely see the Falls with the lights at night. No doubt, it was really beautiful. But that's too bad, we missed the fireworks. They were every Friday and Sunday nights. It was Saturday. Frustration. The next evening, we would be back in Aurora.

Malheureusement, mes photos des chutes de soir ne rendent pas justice à ce qu'elles sont en réalité. Ma caméra donne de piètres résultats lorsqu'il s'agit de prendre des photos dans le noir. Mais ça vous donne quand même une idée:

Unfortunately, my pictures don't so justice to the beauty of the falls in reality. My camera gives poor results when comes the time to take pictures in the dark. But it still gives you an idea:

Nous avons terminé la soirée en dégustant un Frappucino de Starbucks. Youm youm !
We ended the evening drinking a yummy Starbucks Frappucino. Youm youm !

Souper / Dinner

Après Journey Behind the Falls, il était temps d'aller souper. Nous sommes donc parties à la recherche d'un restaurant qui n'avait pas l'air trop cher. Pas facile... Nous avons finalement trouvé un restaurant italien qui n'avait pas l'air trop pire... Erreur...

After Journey Behind the Falls, he had to look for restaurant where to take our dinner. We were looking for a restaurant that didn't look too expensive. Not easy... We finally found an italian restaurant that looked ok... Mistake.
Tout l'argent que nous avons sauvé avec notre chambre d'hôtel à prix raisonnable, nous l'avons dépensé dans ce restaurant. Mais heureusement, c'était très bon. Même si ça ne valait quand même pas le prix...

We spent all the money we had saved with our hotel room at a reasonnable price at that restaurant. At least it was very good. But not enough for the price...

Nous sommes passées à côté du casino, dont les fontaines sont très belles. J'ai pris la photo que voici.

We passed by the casino, and I thought it looked beautiful with its fountains. I took the following picture.

Après le souper, nous étions si pleines que nous avons décidé d'aller digérer le tout dans notre chambre. Nous voulions retourner aux chutes lorsqu'il allait faire complètement noir pour les voir éclairées. Nous avons bien failli nous endormir et passer tout droit...

After dinner, we felt so full that we decided to let it pass in our room. We wanted to come back to the falls when it was going to be all dark to see them with the colored lights. We passed near of falling asleep...

Journey Behind the Falls

Pour Journey Behind the Falls aussi, on a de ces imperméables affreux. Sauf qu'ils sont jaunes.
For Journey Behind the Falls too, we had those awful raincoat. But they were yellow.

On descend dans des ascenceurs qui nous mènent derrière les chutes. Moi je m'imaginais naïvement que nous allions être dans des tunnels transparents qui nous donnent une belle vue de l'arrière des chutes.

You take an elevator down the falls. When you arrive, you are behind the falls. I naively thought that we were going to be in a glass tunnel and that we would have a great view on the back of the falls.

À cause de cela, j'ai été très déçue. En fait oui, nous sommes dans des tunnels, mais non, ils ne sont pas transparents. Il y a seulement des ouvertures par lesquelles on peut voir les chutes. Elles sont très puissantes, aucun doute là-dessus, mais on peut le voir du devant de la chute.

Because of my imagination, I've been very dissapointed by the reality. Yes, we are in tunnels, but no it ain't made of glass. There are opening where you can see the falls. They are very strong, no doubt, but you don't need to be at the back of the falls to see it.

La seule chose que j'ai réellement aimée dans cette activité, c'est la fin du tunnel, qui est en fait une sorte de galerie qui sort juste à côté des chutes. Là, c'est impressionnant, mais je ne suis pas certaine que ça vaille la peine qu'on paye pour voir ça. Mais c'est mon opinion, qu'apparemment tous ne partagent pas puisque plusieurs personnes ont adoré. Moi, j'ai nettement préféré le Maid of the Mist. Mais c'est pas de ma faute, je trippe sur tous les tours de bateau ! lol

The only thing that I really liked from this activity is the end of the tunnel, which is a gallery just beside the falls. There it gets more impressive, but I'm not sure it's worth all you pay to see it. But it's my opinion. Some people may not share it with me, since I saw many enthousiastic people. Personnally, I prefered the Maid of the Mist. But there's nothing surprising in it, I love all boat tours ! lol

Cascade Inn

En sortant du bateau, il y avait bien entendu l'inévitable boutique de souvenirs. J'ai acheté quelques cartes postales, Néguine a acheté plusieurs trucs, puis nous sommes parties.

When we got of the boat, there was, of course a souvenir boutique. I bought a couple of postcards, and Neguine bought a lot of little things. We left the place after that.

Nous avons ensuite marché le long des chutes, en direction de Journey Behind the Falls. Nous nous sommes arrêtées dans une autre boutique souvenir où Néguine s'est acheté un shooter pour sa collection.

Then we walked along the falls, to go to Journey Behind the Falls. We stopped by another souvenir boutique where Neguine bought a shooter for her collection.

Arrivées à Journey Behind the Falls, nous avons dû faire la file un bon moment seulement pour nous faire dire que nous ne pourrions pas passer avant 17h20. Il était 14h45. Ça ne me tentait pas vraiment d'attendre, mais on m'avait dit que c'était un incontournable, alors...

When we arrived to Journey Behind the Falls, we had to wait in a line for a long moment only to learn that we couldn,t go before 5:20. It was 2:45. I didn't feel like waiting that much, but I had heard it was a must see, so...

Finalement, nous avons eu la surprise d'avoir des billets où l'heure était indiquée. Alors, nous pouvions partir sans perdre notre place. Youpi !

Finally, we had the surprise to get tickets that showed the time we would pass. That meant we didn't have to wait in a line to keep our place. Great !

Nous avions suffisament de temps pour nous chercher un hôtel. J'avais très peur de ne pas trouver d'hôtel à prix abordable dans le coin. Au nombre de touristes qu'il y avait, elles devaient déjà être toutes occupées. Nous n'avions pas fait de réservation, car nous avions prévu aller à l'auberge de jeunesse.

We had enough time to search for an hotel. I was afraid that we wouldn't find a room at a reasonnable price in that town. There were so many tourists... I thought that they were probably all reserved already. We didn't make any reservation before our departure, because we had planned to go to an hostel.

Le hic, c'est que l'auberge de jeunesse se trouvait dans la partie de la ville qui faisait pitié et qui était loin des chutes, ce qui ne facilitait pas le transport. Nous avons donc décidé d'essayer de trouver quelque chose de plus près.

The problem is that the hostel was in that part of the town that was a pity and that was far from all attractions, so that wasn't easy for transportation. So we decided to look for something closer.

Nous nous sommes tout d'abord arrêtées au Holiday Inn, qui était complet. Je me suis dit: «Ouin, ça va pas être facile». Mais la dame de la réception nous a suggéré d'essayer le motel à côté, le Cascade Inn.

First, we stopped by the Holiday Inn, who was complete. I told myself: «It won't be easy». But the lady at the reception suggested us to try to the motel beside, the Cascade Inn.

Coup de chance, nous avons eu la dernière chambre ! Et elle avait un coût raisonnable, pour une chambre de Niagara Falls. 115 $ pour une chambre à occupation quadruple. Le seul hic, c'est que la climatisation ne fonctionnait plus ! Et il faisait chaud ! Tant pis. Nous allions avoir chacune un lit double pour la nuit et une belle douche. C'était déjà un luxe.

We had luck: we got the last room ! And the price was reasonnable, considering that we were in Niagara Falls. $115 for a room with two beds. The only problem was that the conditionned air was broken ! And it was hot ! But I didn't mind too much, since we were going to have a double bed each and a great shower for the night. That was already a lot.

Parlant de la chambre de bain, elle venait d'être rénovée. J'ai particulièrement aimé le lavabo qui, lorsqu'on ouvrait l'eau, faisait une chute. Ha ha ! N'importe quoi pour nous rappeler qu'on est aux chutes Niagara !

Speaking of the bathroom, it had just been under renovation. I really liked the sink. When you opened the water, it did a fall. Ha ha ! Anything to remind you that you are in Niagara Falls !

Nous nous sommes reposées un petit peu jusqu'à ce que ce soit l'heure de partir pour Journey Behind the Falls.

We rested a little bit until the time we had to go to Journey Behind the Falls.
