À notre arrivée à Manic 5 la première chose que nous avons fait, comme tout le monde, apparemment, a été d'aller aux toilettes ! Puis, nous nous sommes inscrits pour la visite guidée. Là-bas, on ne prend de risque: on nous enlève sacs, étuis à appareil numérique, sacoches, etc. On ne nous laisse qu'appareil photo et pompes dans le cas des asthmatiques. On ne plaisante pas avec un barrage de cette taille ! Ça ferait des méchants dégâts s'il fallait qu'il cède ! Mais d'après ce que j'ai compris, ce n'est pas une simple bombe qui le ferait céder !
At our arrival at Manic 5, the first thing we did was to go to the toilets. It seems like it is the case for everybody ! Then, we made our inscription for the guided tour. No risk is taken: they ask us to leave our bags, camera case and handbags. We can bring nothing else except our cameras and asthmatic pumps. We're not kidding with such a big barrage ! That would be catastrophic if ever it broke ! But from what I understood, it would need much more then a bomb to brake !

La première étape de la visite guidée est un petit cours théorique. En premier lieu, on reçoit un petit cours de base sur l'électricité où je n'ai rien appris. C'était en fait pour s'assurer que tout le monde avait des connaissances de base pour comprendre la suite. Puis, on nous a expliqué le fonctionnement du barrage et de la centrale électrique ainsi que ses composantes. Finalement, la partie la plus fascinante à mon avis a été l'historique de la construction du barrage qui s'est échelonnée sur plusieurs années.

The first step of the guided tour was a little theoric course. First of all, we get a little basic course on electricity where I didn't learn anything. That was just to make sure everybody knew enough to understand what was going to follow. After that, we got an explanation on how the barrage and electrical central worked and what were their components. Finally, the most fascinating part in my opinion was the historical part that showed how was made the construction of the barrage which lasted many years.

À la deuxième étape du tour guidé, on est embarqués dans une autobus avec nos casques de protection pour la visite de la centrale et du pied du barrage. Dans la centrale (extrêmement bruyante), notre guide nous a montré les différentes composantes dont il nous avait expliqué le fonctionnement auparavant. Puis, nous avons pu admirer le barrage dans toute sa grandeur depuis le pied de sa voûte centrale.

At the second step of the guided tour, we went in a bus with our protection helmets to visit the electrical central and the bottom of the barrage. In the central (which was extremely noisy), our guide showed us the different components he had explained the functions previously. Then, we had the chance to admire the barrage in all its height from the bottom of the central vault.

Puis, l'autobus nous a menés au-dessus du barrage afin que nous puissions admirer d'un côté une infime partie de l'immense réservoir Manicouagan et de l'autre le bas du barrage. L'effet était plutôt spécial. D'un côté, on avait l'impression d'être sur le haut d'un gratte-ciel, et de l'autre, sur une route qui flotte sur l'eau !

Then, the bus brang us to the top of the barrage where we could see at one side a tiny part of the huge Manicouagan reservoir and the other the bottom of the barrage. The effect was weird. One side you felt like you were at the top of a high building and the other it felt like you were on a road floating on the water !

Finalement, l'autobus nous a menés à un panorama d'où on avait une excellente vue d'ensemble: le barrage, la route et la centrale.

Finally, the bus brang us to a panorama where we had an excellent view on the whole place: the barrage, the road and the central.
