Camping improvisé / improvised camping

Lundi dernier, j'ai vu une amie que je n'avais pas vue depuis longtemps. Il nous est venu une idée spontanée: aller faire du camping. L'heure du souper était déjà passée, c'est les vacances de la construction: en gros, ça veut dire que ça n'allait pas être facile.

Last monday, I saw a friend I had not seen in a long time. We had a spontaneous idea: go for a short camping trip. Dinner time was already passed, and it was the construction holidays. In short, it meant that wouldn't be easy to find a camping site.

Il y avait des chances que Chantal travaille le lendemain. Il fallait donc rester proche de Rimouski également.

There was a possibility that Chantal would be working the next day. So we also to stay near of Rimouski.

La solution: le parc du Bic. On regarde sur Internet, et on constate que tous les terrains des 3 campings du parc sont déjà occupés pour la nuit.

Solution: Bic Park. We look on the Internet, and we see that all the camping sites from the three campings are already occupied for the night.

On y va quand même. On connaît le gars qui travaille à l'accueil. On arrive au parc, et il y a un écriteau qui dit qu'il n'y a plus de terrains disponibles. On descend quand même voir Alex. Il se trouve qu'il restait un terrain. Un seul. Il est réservé pour quand il n'y a plus de place. Il nous le donne. Je croyais que ça allait être un terrain petit, nul et sans intérêt, mais non.

We go see anyway. We know the guy that is working at the camping reception. At the park, we read that all the camping sites are effectively occupied. We go inside to see Alex. He says there's still a campground. He is kept for the exceptionnal days were everything is booked. I thought it would be a boring camping site somewhere between the RV's, with too much light and not enough forrest. But I was wrong.

On est à côté de la rivière et on est entourés de forêt, plus que sur n'importe quel autre terrain du camping. Bref, on a vraiment l'impression d'être dans le bois.

We're just besides the river and we're surrounded by the forrest. More then any other camping site of the camping. It really feels like we're in the woods.

On retourne à Rimouski, car on a prévu d'aller au cinéma. Le film est à 21h30 et on a même pas monté la tente avant de partir. Vous savez ce que ça veut dire: on a dû monter notre tente à minuit et demi dans le noir complet. Tout en essayant d'être silencieuses.

We go back to Rimouski, because we also planned to go to the cinema that evening. The movie is at 9:30 PM and we didn't even installed the tent. You know what it means: we had to do it when we have gone back from the cinema, which means at 0:30, in the complet dark. While trying to stay quiet.

On avait ni l'une ni l'autre de lampe de poche. On laisse donc les phares de la voiture ouverts.

None of us had a flashlight. So we let the car's headlights opened.

Jusque là ça va. Mais après, il me prend une envie terrible d'aller aux toilettes. La toilette la plus proche est une toilette sèche, dans une minuscule cabane sans électricité du tout (bien sûr). En plus, je n'ai pas trop prêté attention au chemin et il n'y a absolument aucune lumière sur le camping.

Until then, everything is fine. But suddenly I feel the urge to go to the toilets. The nearest toilet is a dry toilet, in a very small cabin that has no electricity inside (of course). What's more, I haven't paid attention to how we would get there, and there's no source of light on the entire camping.

On se met donc à marcher à tâtons, en ne voyant rien. Ah ! Les plaisirs du camping! On arrive finalement à la toilette, non sans avoir accroché à peu près toutes les roches, toutes les racines sur notre chemin.

So we grope one's way forward, seeing nothing. Ah! The great pleasures of camping ! We arrive to the toilet, after having been caught in every root or rock that were on our way.

Étape suivante: essayer de me débrouiller à l'intérieur de la cabane, dans un noir encore plus complet. La catastrophe !

Next step: trying to cope with the complete dark inside the cabin. Catastrophic !

Je finis par me dire que j'aurais mieux fait d'aller dans le bois. Tant pis. C'est juste une drôle d'aventure, et j'aime les drôles d'aventures (ce qui explique pourquoi j'aime le camping).

I ended up telling myself I should have been better to go in the woods. Anyway. It's just a funny adventure. And I love living funny adventures (that would explain why I love camping).

Le ciel était absolument merveilleux ce soir là. Je n'ai jamais vu tant d'étoiles. J'avais l'impression d'être dans l'espace tellement on voyait loin. La moindre petite étoile. Quelques unes étaient tellement éloignées qu'elles ne faisaient que tacheter le ciel. C'était vraiment beau. J'aurais passé la nuit à le regarder.

The sky was absolutely wonderful that night. I never saw so much stars. It felt like I was in the space, because I saw very very far. Every small stars was clearly visible. Some were so far that they just spotted lightly the sky. It was beautiful. I would have spent the night looking at them.

Mais il fallait se coucher, car c'était possible qu'on doive se lever 4 heures plus tard en catastrophe: devoir tout ranger à 6h30 le matin pour ne pas que Chantal arrive en retard au travail.

But we had to go to sleep, because there had chances that we have to get up 4 hours later really quickly: having to put everything in the car at 6:30 AM so that Chantal arrives in time to her job.

Heureusement, ça n'a pas été le cas. Mais on a pas pu dormir beaucoup plus longtemps. Il faisait une chaleur telle le lendemain matin qu'on ne pouvait plus supporter d'y rester.

Fortunately, it didn't happen. But we could not sleep any longer. It was so hot inside of the tent it just became impossible to stay inside.

On a donc déjeuné, puis on a tout rangé.

So we had breakfast and we got everything in the car.

À 10h, il y avait une activité au Parc, à la Pointe-aux-Épinettes. Les phoques allaient être au rendez-vous. Ils sont dans une période de l'année où ils doivent absolument rester au soleil pour je ne sais plus quelle raison. Ils se battent donc pour avoir leur place sur les roches à marée basse.

At 10:00, there was an activity at the Parc, at the Pointe-aux-Épinettes. The seals were going to be there. They are in a critical period of the year where they must stay under the sun for I don't remember which reason. So they fight for the only rocks were they can rest when the sea is at low tide.

Il y avait donc un guide ce matin là avec des jumelles extra puissantes. Effectivement, les phoques étaient nombreux. Il y en avait 36, alors que de toute ma vie, je n'avais pas vu un seul phoque au Parc du Bic. Il faut dire que je n'avais pas de telles jumelles !

There was a guide that morning with so extra powerful binoculars. Effectively, we could see many seals. They were 36, when in all my life, I have seen zero in the Bic Park. Need to say I never had such binoculars, though !
Après les avoir vus, on est retournés à la maison.

After that, we got back home.
