Test d'anglais par téléphone / English test per telephone

Mon entrevue chez Telus hier s'est plutôt bien passée. En fait, je ne sais pas trop à quoi m'attendre. Je pense qu'il y avait énormément de candidats. Maintenant, il ne me reste qu'un test d'anglais par téléphone à passer, jeudi 16h40. Je sais que mon anglais est assez bon, mais je ne peux pas m'empêcher de stresser. J'ai très hâte que ce soit terminé !

My interview for Telus went good yesterday I think. To tell the truth, I don't know what to expect, because it looks like there were many people wanting to have the job. Now, the only thing left is to pass a telephone english test next Thursday at 4:40 PM. I know my english is good enough, but I just can't help stressing. I can't wait for all this to be over !

La fin de la route ! End of the road !

Sitôt rendue à Natashquan, je ne me contiens plus, je veux aller voir la fin de la route ! Je veux mettre les pieds encore plus à l'est que la fin de la route ! Il y a quelque chose de toute à fait irréel dans le fait d'aller au bout de la route. On se sent comme si marchait dans des lieux inexplorés, même si dans les faits, ce n'est pas vrai ! Je suis consciente qu'il n'y a pas grand chose à faire là-bas, mais c'eût été un crime d'aller jusqu'à Natashquan sans aller au bout de la route, non ?

As soon as I put my feet in Natashquan, I could no more wait: I wanted to see the end of the road ! I want to have my feet even eastern then the road ! There's something totally unreal about it. You feel like you went to unexplored lands, even though it is not true ! I was conscious that there wasn't much to do there, but it would have been a crime to go to Natashquan without seeing the end of the road.

Depuis Natashquan, il y avait encore 18 kilomètres à faire sur une route de terre. Ça ne paraît pas, mais dix-huit kilomètres dans ces conditions, c'est très long ! L'électricité ne se rendait même pas où nous étions. Les poteaux étaient là, mais aucun fil ne les reliait. C'était bizarre.

From Natashquan, there were still 18 kilometers to do on a unpavelled road. Eighteen kilometers is very long on such a road, believe me ! The electricity didn't even got there. The pylon were already there, but unlinked with the wires. That was weird.

Sur place, je me rends compte que je ne pourrai pas marcher bien loin derrière, car il y a une grande rivière. Donc, place à la séance photo, avec mon père qui, comme d'habitude, fait les choses à sa manière ! lol

On the place, I soon realize I won't walk much behind the end of the road, since there's a big river. Time for the photo shot with my father who, as usual, does the things his own way ! lol

La grande rivière Natashquan est tout à fait magnifique. Elle est peu profonde, et de fait, plusieurs îlots de sables se forment en son centre.

The grande rivière Natashquan is magnificient. It is not deep, and often the sand forms little islands in its center.

Prochaine étape: je veux absolument une photo de moi dans la toundra afin que tous me croient que j'en ai vu. On arrête donc sur le bord de la route, et SURPRISE ! Quand je tente de mettre le pied dans cette végétation, je m'enfonce totalement ! C'était une sensation si bizarre, vous n'imaginez pas ! Le sol avait l'air parfaitement solide, aussi je ne me suis pas méfiée; mais j'ai eu une de ses frousses en mettant le pied dessus ! La végétation ne semblait pas être plus haute que quelques centimètres, mais dans les faits, elle était beaucoup plus haute ! Je me suis donc tenue sur le bord de la route pour la photo !

Next step: I absolutely wanted a picture of me in the toundra so everyone believes me I have seen the toundra. So we stop the car on the side of the road, and SURPRISE ! When I try to put my foot in this vegetation, it feels like I'm sucked by the ground ! It's such a weird feeling, you don't even imagine ! The ground looked perfectly solid, so I didn't pay attention; but I have such a fear when I walked onto it ! The vegetation really looked like it was such a few centimeters above the ground, but in fact it was much higher ! So I stayed on the side of the road for the picture !

Plus tard, alors qu'on se rendait vers «l'aéroport» on a fait une reprise dans un autre type de végétation qui ressemblait encore plus à la toundra. C'était très bruyant de marcher là-dessus, je vous assure ! Une autre drôle de sensation !

Later, went we were on the road to the «airport» we took another picture in what looked even more like tundra. It was so noisy when you walked on it ! Another weird feeling !

Côte-Nord. 6 août, partie 5 / August 6th, part 5

De retour sur la route, avec ses arbres rabougris et sa tourbe. C'est long et ennuyeux. Heureusement, la route est agrémentée de plusieurs magnifiques rivières telles que celle-ci.

Back on the road, with its tiny trees and its peat. It's long and boring. Fortunately, on the road there are a lot of magnificient rivers like this one.

Les places où s'arrêter pour aller aux toilettes se font extrêmement rares. Seuls les centres d'information touristiques des rares villages en ont. C'est ainsi qu'on arrête au village d'Aguanish.

Places where to stop for the toilets are being rare. Only the touristic information centres of the rare villages have some. That's how we ended up in Aguanish.

La dame de l'information touristique semble enchantée d'avoir des visiteurs. Elle ne s'arrête plus de parler, mais elle est très sympathique et a l'accent acadien pur.

The woman of the touristic information center is glad to finally have some visitors. She doesn't stop talking, but she is very nice and has pure acadian accent.

Elle nous montre un trésor qui a été trouvé dans la rivière de son village. Une grosse roche parfaitement ronde et polie ! Elle a été trouvée telle qu'elle. Elle n'a pas été retouchée, bien que ce soit difficile à croire !

She shows us a treasure that has been found in her village's river. A big rock perfectly spherical and polished ! It's been found just like you see it, even though it's really hard to believe !

Prochain arrêt: le village de Baie-Johan-Beetz, village qu'un homme qui cueillait de la chicoutée à la rivière que je vous ai montré (ça lui faisait bien loin pour cueillir des fruits) nous a invité à visiter un peu. Sur place, on se rend compte qu'il n'y a pas grand chose à visiter, bien que ce soit un très charmant village. Des belles petites maisons de pêcheurs près de la plage et fait renversant: nous voyons notre première vache du voyage ! C'est là que nous nous rendons compte que de tout le voyage nous n'avons vu ni vache, ni ferme, ni champ, ni même jardin ! Il faut croire que le sol n'est pas fertile sur la Côte-Nord !

Next stop: Baie-Johan-Beetz, a village a man picking up chicoutée near the river of the picture above (it was quite far to pick up fruits ) invited us to visit a little. There, we soon realised there was not much to visit, although it was a very charming village. Beautiful little fishers houses near the beach, and astonishing fact: we see our first cow of the trip ! That's when we realized that of all the trip, we had not seen any cow, any farm, any field or even any garden ! That's to believe the Côte-Nord's lands are not proper to agriculture !

Après l'île Niapiskau, nous sommes revenus par Havre-St-Pierre, mais par un autre chemin qui nous permettait de voir quelques autres îles de l'Archipel, notamment celle-ci.

After the Niapiskau island, we went back to Havre-St-Pierre, but by another way that allowed us to see other islands of the archipelago, among which this one.

Partout dans l'archipel, on croisait d'autres bateaux de croisière, des zodiaks, mais avant tout des kayaks. C'est là que je regrettais de ne pas avoir plus de temps. Avoir eu quelques semaines, j'aurais bien aimé exploré tout l'archipel dans un kayak de mer. Mais de toute façon, je suis irréaliste: je ne sais presque pas faire de kayak, et je suis sans doute pas assez en forme pour un tel voyage ! Un jour peut-être....

Everywhere in the archipelago, we met other cruise boats and dinghy boats, but even more kayaks. It's when I started to regret not having more time. If I had had a couple of weeks, I would have loved to explore the whole archipelago in a sea kayak. But anyway, I'm not realistic: I barely can do kayak, and no doubt that my shape is not good enough for such a trip ! Maybe one day...

Une autre activité possible dans l'archipel, et qu'aussi j'aurais adoré essayer: la plongée sous-marine. Les chanceux !

Another possible activity in the archipelago, and that I also would have loved to try: scuba diving. Lucky them !

On est également passés devant l'île au Marteau, avec notamment son petit phare et autres habitations blanches et rouges. J'ai une question pour vous (dont je n'ai pas la réponse): pourquoi les phares sont presque toujours rouge et blanc ?

We also passed in front of the Marteau (Hammer island), avec, between other, its little lighthouse and other red and white houses. I have a question for you (I don'thave the answer): why are the lighthouses almost always red and white ?

C'est ainsi que se termine notre belle matinée dans les îles Mingan. Au programme pour l'après-midi: encore de la route pour se rendre jusqu'à Natashquan.

That's how how beautiful morning in the Mingan islands ends. To the program that afternoon: road again, this time until we arrive in Natashquan.

Mes réflexions après Havre-St-Pierre: Ça a beau être le bout du monde, ça vaut le détour, mille fois ! Mais où sont les macareux, qui sont pourtant l'emblème d'Havre-St-Pierre ? (J'ai appris par la suite qu'ils n'étaient pas à Havre-St-Pierre, mais à Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan.)

My thoughts after Havre-St-Pierre: It may be very far from everything, but it's worth the road, a thousand times ! But where are the puffins, which are the emblem of Havre-St-Pierre ? (I learned after that the puffins weren't in Havre-St-Pierre, but in Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan.)

Départ de l'île Fantôme, en route vers l'île Niapiskau !

Les monolithes sont en moins grande quantité, mais ils sont de taille beaucoup plus impressionnante.

There are fewer monoliths, but they are impressive by their size.

Quant à l'eau, c'est l'eau la plus claire que j'aie vue au Canada jusqu'à maintenant.

The water is the most pure and clear that I have seen in Canada until now.

La faune est également des plus présentes.

Fauna is also omnipresent.

À notre arrivée sur l'île, il y a une autre guide de Parcs Canada qui nous attend, cette fois pour nous parler de ce que nous attendons tous: comment sont formés ces fameux monolithes.

At our arrival on the island, another guide from Parks Canada waits for us, this time to talk to us about what we're all waiting: how these monoliths are shaped.

Nous avons tout d'abord droit à un exposé sur comment la croûte terrestre s'est formée, afin de mieux comprendre la suite. Je vais vous épargner les détails, mais ce sont les glaciers qui l'ont fait.

First, we have a little course on how the earth's crust was formed, to understand better after. I will pass many details, but it's the glaciers who did it.

Les îles Mingan, contrairement au reste de la Minganie, sont formées de roches sédimentaires calcaires (ceux qui ont lu mon message sur l'île d'Anticosti vont faire le lien... En passant, les îles Mingan sont près de l'île d'Anticosti que l'on peut voir à l'horizon de là) plutôt que des roches ignées du bouclier Canadien. Ces roches sont beaucoup plus friables que les roches ignées, comme plusieurs d'entre vous le savent sans doute. En bref, le retirement progressif des glaciers qui recouvraient les îles Mingan ont peu a peu sculpté les monolithes que nous pouvons voir aujourd'hui. Le vent, la mer, le froid et l'oxydation se sont occupés du reste, quoique de façon minime. Encore aujourd'hui, les monolithes changent de forme, mais très progressivement. Je crois que c'est d'un millimètre aux 10 000 ans.

The Mingan islands, unlike the rest of the Mingany, are formed with chalky sedimentary rocks (those who read my post about the Anticosti island will make a link... By the way, the Mingan island are very close of the Anticosti island, that we can see at the skyline) instead of the igneous rocks of the Canadian shield. These rocks are much more crumbly, as many of you may know. In short, the progresive retirement of the glaciers shaped the monoliths we know today. The wind, the sea, the cold and the oxidation did the rest, although their effect wasn't as big as the glaciers. Still today, the monoliths are transforming, but very progressively. I think it's one millimeter per 10 000 years.

La gâteau de mariage (vous ne pouvez pas le voir sur la photo, mais sur le dessus il y a deux sapins qui ont poussé et qui représentent les nouveaux mariés).

Et voici enfin la fameuse dame de Niapiskau ! Il paraît qu'il y a deux façon de voir une femme dans ce monolithe, mais j'ai beau regarder, je n'en vois qu'une. Quelqu'un peut voir les deux ?

And here is now the famous Niapiskau woman ! I learned there were two ways to see a woman in this monolith, but no matter how I concentrate, I just see one. Someone can see both ?
