Spectacle aérien, partie 5 / Air Show, part 5

From Ste-Foy, we immediately went to St-Nicolas to prepare our tent for the night. And this, even though we were starving and exhausted. On the road, it was raining a little bit, but it stopped at the time we arrived at the campground. But of course, with my legendary luck (rain, storms, insects invasions and cancelled trips), as soon as I opened the trunk to get the tent out, a torrential rain began. We hurried preparing the tent, but it's been long enough for the tent to be a little wet already. I made sure I had tightened well the canvas so it doesn't do as the last time in St-Nicolas. But I was already sure that it wouldn't work out.
The rain stopped two minutes after we finnished setting up the tent...
Neguine's friend joined us and we went eating at the Boston Pizza. It was very good, much better then la Cage aux Sports, two restaurants that are often said to be similar. Neguine and I were so tired that we kept saying anything that passed throung our minds.
In these circumstances, we didn't stay up too long and we went sleeping as soon as we arrived at the camping. We didn't even lit a fire (anyway, the campgroung was completely wet and since it was passed 11 o'clock there was nowhere to buy the logs).
At 2:20, I woke up for the first time and I realized that it was raining again and that the tent was beginning to give in on the sides. I got back to sleep with the conscience not completely peaceful...
Then I began to wake up every 30 minutes, each time more wet. At 4 o'clock, the rain had gotten through all my sleeping bag and my cloths were completely wet.
I was thinking about leaving like the last time, but I finally got back to sleep, since I didn't feel courageous enough to stand up and set off the tent under the heavy rain to get back in Rimouski in the night.
Finally we left at about 5:30 because we could no more stand it. The rain never slowered. It's funny, since the afternoon the day before, the rain had only been falling when it didn't need too. We were completely wet and desesperately tired. But we were still in a good mood !
Je me suis quand même dit que le camping Koa de St-Nicolas me portait décidément malheur... Je ne pense pas y retourner ! (Observez bien, je vais sûrement y retourner quand même...).
I told myself that St-Nicolas Koa's camping was without doubt carrying me misfortune... I don't think I'll ever come back (But watch me, next time you hear about camping, I'll be there...).
We took pictures before we changed our clothes (after we set off the tent) and after. Admit that it did us real good ! It looks that we were exhausted, though...
You know what ? Once arrived in Rimouski, people told us that it had been a nice ans sunny weekend ! But the rain began some hours after our arrival...

Today was a great sunny day, and I intended to take advantage of the only day off of the week. The sky was bleu and the air was cool and pure, it was 0 C ! I decided to take photographs to the Bic's Park. It was the first time I visited itduring winter. I thought the access was limited, but I was wrong ! The paths were solid and we didn't get stock into the snow at all. The only major difference was that we had to park the car at the main entrance, since the park's road were not cleared from the snow. So we couldn't go so far. But it didn't matter, since I experienced a different Bic's park, the ice taking the place of the water and beaches, the paths taking the place of the roads, and most of all the igloos and yurtes substituing the traditionnal tents and Rv's.
One thing is sure : I want to try the igloos one day !!!

Moi à l'intérieur de l'igloo !
Me inside the igloo !

Côte-Nord.

Between Port-Cartier and Sept-Îles, we stopped to Gallix, where lives one of my uncles. Unfortunately, he wasn't there. The rain started to pour heavily, but the sun was still there. All our way between Gallix and Sept-Îles and Sept-Îles, we have had rainbows. I think I never saw so much of them in my life.
We finally arrived in Sept-Îles some time after. I was very surprised by the town's size. I thought it would be some kind of tiny town, like 5000 inhabitants. I couldn't have been more wrong: it was 25 000 inhabitants ! What's more, it was the Quebec's games. You can imagine that it was rather crowded. They were athletes, athlete's parents, coaches, accompanists and tourists everywhere. A real anthill ! I'm sure this is not like that all the time.
With the Quebec games, you can imagine that it hasn't been easy to find a place to sleep. I saw by myself that all hotels were full until Baie-Comeau, which is 250 km from Sept-Îles. I even heard that some people had to go to Chicoutimi, which is more then 500 km from Sept-Îles!
At the opposite from what happens to me everytime I go on a trip, I have had chance ! We got the last camping site at only 25 km from Sept-Îles, and it stopped raining just in time to set up the tent ! And believe it or not, the nice weather stayed all evening and all night !
And the best part is that there were about 200% less mosquitos then people had told me to expect !

Last monday, I saw a friend I had not seen in a long time. We had a spontaneous idea: go for a short camping trip. Dinner time was already passed, and it was the construction holidays. In short, it meant that wouldn't be easy to find a camping site.
There was a possibility that Chantal would be working the next day. So we also to stay near of Rimouski.
Solution: Bic Park. We look on the Internet, and we see that all the camping sites from the three campings are already occupied for the night.
On y va quand même. On descend quand même voir Alex.
We go see anyway. We know the guy that is working at the camping reception. At the park, we read that all the camping sites are effectively occupied. We go inside to see Alex. He says there's still a campground. He is kept for the exceptionnal days were everything is booked. I thought it would be a boring camping site somewhere between the RV's, with too much light and not enough forrest. But I was wrong.
We're just besides the river and we're surrounded by the forrest. More then any other camping site of the camping. It really feels like we're in the woods.
We go back to Rimouski, because we also planned to go to the cinema that evening. The movie is at 9:30 PM and we didn't even installed the tent. You know what it means: we had to do it when we have gone back from the cinema, which means at 0:30, in the complet dark. While trying to stay quiet.
None of us had a flashlight. So we let the car's headlights opened.
Until then, everything is fine. But suddenly I feel the urge to go to the toilets. The nearest toilet is a dry toilet, in a very small cabin that has no electricity inside (of course). What's more, I haven't paid attention to how we would get there, and there's no source of light on the entire camping.
So we grope one's way forward, seeing nothing. Ah! The great pleasures of camping ! We arrive to the toilet, after having been caught in every root or rock that were on our way.
Next step: trying to cope with the complete dark inside the cabin. Catastrophic !
I ended up telling myself I should have been better to go in the woods. Anyway. It's just a funny adventure. And I love living funny adventures (that would explain why I love camping).
The sky was absolutely wonderful that night. I never saw so much stars. It felt like I was in the space, because I saw very very far. Every small stars was clearly visible. Some were so far that they just spotted lightly the sky. It was beautiful. I would have spent the night looking at them.
But we had to go to sleep, because there had chances that we have to get up 4 hours later really quickly: having to put everything in the car at 6:30 AM so that Chantal arrives in time to her job.
Fortunately, it didn't happen. But we could not sleep any longer. It was so hot inside of the tent it just became impossible to stay inside.
On a donc déjeuné, puis on a tout rangé.
So we had breakfast and we got everything in the car.
At 10:00, there was an activity at the Parc, at the Pointe-aux-Épinettes. The seals were going to be there. They are in a critical period of the year where they must stay under the sun for I don't remember which reason. So they fight for the only rocks were they can rest when the sea is at low tide.
There was a guide that morning with so extra powerful binoculars. Effectively, we could see many seals. They were 36, when in all my life, I have seen zero in the Bic Park. Need to say I never had such binoculars, though !
After that, we got back home.

Camping à St-Nicolas, partie 5 / Camping in St-Nicolas, part 5

At about 1:30 AM that night, I woke up. It was raining not only outside, but also over my head. It quickly became really annoying, and I ended up my head to the side of other people's feet. I think I suceeded at sleeping a little bit again, and when I woke up for the second time, the rain had passed through my entire sleeping bag, my pyjamas were completely wet, there was a lake at the bottom of the matress, I had fever and I had the worst headache of my entire live, with nothing to relieve it. I unsuccessfully tried to sleep again.
I think the others weren't completely sleeping either, they were dozing. They didn't seem, unlike me, to get any rain on them. I didn't want to wake them up, but I became so frustrated that ended up yelling I wanted to go away from there ! It was 2:45 AM.
Normally, I don't react that way. I endure all kind of disasters in camping, but this time was enough.
The others woke up. We argued a little bit about what to do, and then they also started to pour over them. We decided to leave and to get back in Rimouski, right in the middle of the night! That was a better solution then waking up ill the next morning.
On a donc décampé.
So we cleared out our camping stuff, and we've been really surprised to see we weren't alone to go away !
Ça, c'était la dernière aventure. Ah ! Les plaisirs du camping!
That has been the last adventure. Ah! The pleasures of being in camping !
The most funny is that when we started to pack our things the rain stopped! LOL We left anyway. We wouldn't have slept better even if the rain had stopped.
It was kind of weird to get back home in the middle of the night, in a car with our pyjamas, watching the sunset !

Camping à St-Nicolas, partie 4 / Camping in St-Nicolas, part 4

After the Montmorency Falls, we wanted to roller skate in the old part of Lévis. We had not planned we would be climbing so much steps, and our legs were shaking, not ready for some skating! So we simply got back to the camping. Before we went to Place Laurier (another shopping center) to buy a grill to make hotdogs at the Dollorama (a shop where everything is at $1). Then we went to the supermarket to buy what was missing for the dinner.
It was very early for dinner when we got back to the camping, but we were all hungry. So we were eating when the weather started to look bad. The sky quickly darkened, and the wind started to blow quite strong. We even heard some thunder.
We did not know what to do for the evening. We thought of going to the cinema, but it would have been a little ridiculous, since we can go there any time in Rimouski.
We did not see anything to do in any place indoors. It started to rain and we still didn't know what to do in the evening. But suddenly it stopped. The birds started to sing, and the sun seemed to come back. So we went back to the pool and spa. Everything went right, it felt good, until an anglophone came in the spa. I don't know for you, but in our case we suddenly had nothing to say. To break that silence, the woman started to speak about the weather, and since I was the only one who could answer to her, I was forced to chat with her.
Then, adventure # 6: Steven found out that he had let his engine immobilizer in his bathing suit's pockets. And of course, he had been in the spa. At that moment, the sky darkened quickly again.
Eric and I decided to walk back to our camping site to change clothes before it rains again. Of course, we were just gone that the rain poured. Adventure #7. The thunder started and we've been quickly completely wet. I had took the picture above to show how menacing was the sky. We went beside our camping site where was a shelter to get out of the rain. We sat there, outside, completely wet and freezing, waiting for the rain to slow down. We didn't want to go in the tent, because we would have wet all our stuff (we didn't know at that moment, but it wasn't going to change anything). Since the rain was not stopping, I took pictures of what was around us to pass time.

The rain finally stopped, we went to put our clothes, and Karine and Steven still weren't there. We knew the car was probably not starting ! That's when I started to feel depressed.
Then, Karine arrived to take a battery that, fortunately, fitted into the engine immobilizer. And miracle ! Only the battery had been damaged by the water of the spa. But Steven was in fury. He was shouting to us as if it was our fault !
That evening, since the clear sky had came back, we did a fire. There was few wood remaining, so it didn't last for a long time. We went to sleep very early. Anyway, there wasn't anything else to do.

Camping à St-Nicolas, partie 3 / Camping in St-Nicolas, part 3

Adventure #5: Right in the middle of the old art of Quebec City, we got some mechanical problems with Steven's car. His motor was turning too quickly, which ended up in heating too much the car's pieces. Fortunately, Steven knows much about cars and we got out of it without much more problems. I couldn't explain what was the problem exactly since I know nothing about cars or almost.
After much more time then necessary to reach the Montmorency Falls from St-Nicolas, it's safe and healthy that we arrived !
We got into the Park by the top of the fall. We could pass over it walking on a suspension bridge. It was really high, and from there the scenery was surprising. We could see Quebec City on the background, and, right in front of us, Orléans island with its bridge.
From the bridge we could also see the several steps that brings us to the bottom of the falls:

We went to those stairs once we got through the suspension bridge. While walking toward them, we could see many interpretation boards I haven't had the pleasure to read attentively. In short, the Parc des Chutes Montmorency has been the place where general Wolffe settled his troops during that Quebec's important war where Great Britain won the Nouvelle-France over France. We can see the rests of the ground fortresses in the park.
We got down all the stairs to have a better view on the Montmorency Falls, which are 83 meters (30 meters higher then the Niagara Falls).

But of course, when we get down, we have to get back up ! We counted the steps: there were 437 ! I'm no more in shape, and it's been quite hard to me to climb them all so quickly, so I was really proud of myself ! And my legs and thighs will no more complain of their lack of activity for a while !

Camping à St-Nicolas, partie 2 / Camping in St-Nicolas, part 2

We skipped breakfast that morning and planned the rest of the trip. We wanted to roller skate along the old part of Lévis (the town in front of Quebec), visit the Montmorency falls, walk in the Old Quebec, go at the Galeries de la Capitale (a shopping center) and see an IMAX movie. But first of all we wanted to try the spa and buy some stuff to eat during the trip.
It was a great morning. The day seemed to want to be warm and sunny. So we started it up between the camping's pool and the spa:
After that, we went to St-Nicolas grocery and we made sandwiches with canned soups. Since we were gone on that trip without any preparation, we forgot everything. So we bought a cheap can opener and we put the canned meal into the fire to heat them up. We do what we can with what we have ! During the evening, as we had other cans to open for dinner, Eric broke the can opener. So we did all we could to open them. Adventure #3.

After lunch time, we asked directions to go to the Montmorency falls at the camping's reception. The girl there gave us what she thought were the simpliest directions to go there. The thing is that she made us pass through the old part of Quebec City. What she didn't know was that there would be machine works on the roads there. So we had to find other ways to go to the falls. And who knows the old part of Quebec City also knows that it's full of one ways. The result is that we turned around like crazy and we got lost. Adventure #4. Karine and Eric both had their maps and each had their theories of how to get there. And I had also my own theories, so the poor Steven no more knew where to go and got crazy hearing us shout different directions. At least, it gave me the chance to see the Tourny fountain, a recent gift to Quebec City for the 400th anniversary of the town next year. This fountain has had a past life, if I can say. It has been in the centre of Bordeaux in France during the 17th century. I took a picture of it from the car while it moved, so I am sorry if the results are not the best.
I think it looks absolutely gorgeous. On TV, I've seen it enlighted in the night. I was breathless looking at it. If you want to know more about this fountain, click on the link above.

Camping à St-Nicolas, partie 1 / Camping in St-Nicolas, part 1

Finally, we did not go to Percé. The weather was supposed to be rainy. We tried to escape from the rain by choosing another destination, and I must admit that it wasn't the best idea we've ever had.

On the day we were supposed to leave, we had to choose somewhere to go. Since my friends had a low budget for that trip, we couldn't go very far. So we went on camping Québec website to try to find somewhere to sleep. That's how we ended up in... Québec City! GREAT TRIP ! I've just spent a year living there, that was going to be a big change ! lol You understand that I wasn't the most enthousiastic girl, no need to say.

Our camping was more precisely in St-Nicolas, on the South coast of Quebec City. 2 km from the camping was the other camping where I had my initiation for the psychology program. That was kind of strange. At least, it wasn't the same ! Some happy and less happy memories would have come back to my mind !

As always when I'm on a trip, MANY adventures happenned to us. There's no way to escape the bad lucks when you travel with me. And nothing is my fault, it's just that every bad thing you can imagine happen to me. The first bad luck we had in this trip is that we started the trip one hour later then we were supposed to. You'll say that it's nothing. You're right. But the thing actually is that we wouldn't have been late if we had not been travelling between Pointe-au-Père and Rimouski for an hour because we had things missing ! We finally left Rimouski at 6:10 PM.

We had dinner much later, at about 8:00 PM, in la Pocatière.... And YES ! At the Mc Donald. That Mc Donald is all that is not in this small town. Nobody knows the town itself, but everyone in Quebec or almost knows that there is a Mc Donald in la Pocatière near the road. I no more count the times that I had to stop at that restaurant to eat. It was the first time I went back there since the Bahamas. I avoided the Big Mac (now that I know the color of the "meat" when it's not cooked) and I'm still alive ! lol But I really did not missed eating it.

We arrived in the camping at approximately 9:30 PM if I remember well. We quickly installed the tent and the sleeping bags, and Eric and I almost ran (in a sense... We were actually in a car) to the convenience store from the camping that closed at 10:00 PM to buy some wood for the fire. Eric drove Steven's car, and he didn't know about that complicated engine immobilizer thing. So we couldn't get back to our camping site. So I ended up walking back to our camping site (at the complete back of the camping) in the dark with only my memory to guide myself to look for Steven. That's for adventure #2. At that moment, Karine was desesperately trying to find wood in the small forrest to keep alive the fire we had started with little wood. She had to keep it alive because if it had died, we no more had any paper.

The guys finally arrived and we had a short fire time before to get to sleep, quite early. We had for a project to jump in the spa as soon as it opened the next morning ! lol I will tell about the rest of this trip later.

Nouveauté à l'Île St-Barnabé / News from the St-Barnabé Island

Do you remember when I talked about the St-Barnabé island in front of Rimouski ? Well, something new from this year: 14 camping sites ! This is super cool ! Imagine spending the night alone or almost, on an island with the view on Rimouski enlighted ! That's paradoxical... You're there, living with the basic stuff, without fresh water or a normal toilet, when at some kilometers from you, it's the city, where everything is easily accessible ! You may not agree with me, but I think this is an amazing idea ! Two of the fourteen camping sites are all equiped. You just need to bring your food and your sleeping bags ! Isn't it cool ?
